Konstantin Nikulin, CEO, INTENIUM GmbH:
In the autumn of 2003, the INTENIUM GmbH Company (Hamburg) launched a commercial game portal named "GERMANY PLAYS!" (www.deutschland-spielt.de). The portal is aimed at building its own system of selling computer games on the German-speaking market and taking the leading position in the sector of the so-called casual games.
In the process of preparing for the launch, we faced the task of managing the portal effectively and of collecting and analyzing information about the activity and the behavior of users on it. The problem was as follows: either we develop such a system on our own or we purchase a ready-made system from another developer. After we evaluated the efforts required to develop our own system, we came to the conclusion that it is a dead-end way that would not result in the quality we need in those time limits that we had at our disposal. The only way was to purchase a ready-made system meeting our needs.
It turned out to be quite a challenge to find a site management system that could be quickly started, provided the necessary security level and functionality. It did not take us long to choose the Bitrix Site Manager system. I would like to point out that this variant was practically the only one that met most our requirements, at least, theoretically.
For half a year since our portal started functioning we have had the opportunity to gain some practical experience of working with this system. I would like to say right away that we have never regretted out decision! I cannot tell you ho well the source code of the Bitrix Site Manager system is written because I am not a programmer and, to be honest, I am rather far from it. I can only evaluate this system from the point of view of how useful it is for my business. Below I will enumerate only the most important moments from my experience of working with the system:
1. The system is easy to learn. It took us only several weeks to implement the system – not months or even years.
2. There are very few bugs in the system. One can even say that they are not bugs, but rather shortcomings. It really is a rare case.
3. The system is flexible and easily customizable for various needs. At present, it practically meets our requirements concerning the collection and processing of initial information used in market researches and estimates. It is our money.
4. The system is permanently being developed and optimized, which is extremely important when talking about the creation of long-term and dynamically developed business.
5. The exclusively favorable "cost – effectiveness" correlation. It is exactly the case when you can say: "the money has not been wasted".
I would not like you to think that this system is "ideal for everyone" because it is not true. This system is only a small part of what is necessary to build business online that will be profitable. On the other hand, you can at least rest assured that this part will not fail you.
